Founder, Chairman & Chief Executive Officer

Mr. Bowden, founder of The Hanover Company, is responsible for strategic planning, risk management, operational aspects and investment decisions, and has been involved in all aspects of apartment acquisitions, development, construction, management and finance for the entire life of the company.

Mr. Bowden graduated cum laude with a bachelor's degree from Dartmouth College and a juris doctorate from the University of Texas Law School. He devotes time to various charities and educational institutions.

John Nash

President

As president of The Hanover Company, John Nash oversees the company's day-to-day acquisitions, development and construction activities.  He was instrumental in the organizations' evolution to an innovator of landmark, urban rental properties across the country, securing its position as an industry leader.  Prior to joining The Hanover Company in 1997, Mr. Nash was a partner with the firm Mayer, Brown and Platt.  Mr. Nash's legal career focused on all aspects of real estate acquisitions, sales, workouts, lending, leasing and development across all asset types. He is a graduate of the University of Texas and earned his juris doctorate from Southern Methodist University School of Law, where he was an editor for the Southwestern Law Journal.  Mr. Nash serves on the executive boards of several community organizations.

Overseeing Hanover's in-house Legal/Risk Management team which handles all corporate and joint venture organizational efforts, Tim Ellwood joined The Hanover Company as General Counsel after more than 20 years in private practice. Prior to joining the company, Mr. Ellwood was a partner at Mayer, Brown, Rowe & Maw LLP.  He graduated cum laude with a BBA from Texas A&M University and earned his juris doctorate cum laude from University of Houston Law Center.

Brandt Bowden

Chief Investment Officer

As Chief Investment Officer, Mr. Bowden oversees all debt and equity financing efforts for The Hanover Company, Mr. Bowden is involved in all aspects of acquisition, development, construction, management and finance. Prior to joining The Hanover Company, Mr. Bowden worked for Bank of America Securities Real Estate Investing Banking division where he performed corporate strategic and financial advisory services. Mr. Bowden also has experience with L.J. Melody where he provided advisory services on structured debt financing. Mr. Bowden earned his BA from Dartmouth College.

Chief Operating Officer

As Chief Operating Officer, Mr. Bowden is responsible for the strategic oversight of the Property Management, Asset Management, Human Resources, Information Technology and Account functions. Prior to his current role, Mr. Bowden led the disposition effort of over $2.0 billion in total assets. Mr. Bowden also played a major role in the creation of Hanover's international initiative, Clairmont Global, a joint venture between Hanover and Metropolitan Life Company. Mr. Bowden graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree from Vanderbilt University.

Roxanne Cox

Vice President, Human Resources

As the Vice President of Human Resources, Ms. Cox leads Hanover's human resources organization. She oversees people initiatives targeted at attracting, developing and retaining Hanover employees.  Prior to joining Hanover, Ms. Cox was the Vice President of Human Capital for several global real estate operating companies including Verde Realty and Security Capital Group, where she provided strategic oversight of the HR function, innovative compensation and benefit solutions and employee relation programs which contributed to a positive work environment. Ms. Cox earned a BA, MBA and PhD in business with a specialization in HRM from New Mexico State University.  She is certified as a Senior Professional, Human Resources (SPHR) and a SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP). 

Ben Whitman

Vice President, Capital Markets

As Vice President of Capital Markets, Mr. Whitman is primarily responsible for overseeing Hanover's sourcing of construction and permanent debt financing as well as managing relationships with capital partners. Prior to joining Hanover in 2006, Mr. Whitman worked for UBS where he performed an array of financial advisory services for both institutions and high net-worth clients and for Frank N. Magid Associates, a leading research-based entertainment and news strategic consulting and research firm. Mr. Whitman graduated from Washington and Lee University with a B.S. in Business Administration and earned his MBA from the Jones Graduate School of Business at Rice University.

Judi Hopper

Chief Accounting Officer

Administering the accounting, financial reporting and information technology functions, Ms. Hopper joined Hanover in 1998. Previously, she was an audit manager with Arthur Andersen, L.L.P. in Houston. Her client base consisted of a diverse group of public and private companies in the real estate, waste disposal, manufacturing and distribution industries. Ms. Hopper served on Hanover's audit engagement for four years before joining the company. A certified public accountant, she graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a bachelor of business administration degree and a master's degree in accounting.

Jim Fenwick

Vice President, Property Management

As Vice President of Property Management, Mr. Fenwick is responsible for managing all property operations for the Hanover portfolio. Prior to joining Hanover, Mr. Fenwick served as President for Miller-Valentine Group, a privately held vertically integrated real estate firm, where he led a team managing more than 13,000 units in 15 states.  While at Equity Residential Properties, he was the Northeast Executive Vice President known as an urban and high rise expert with oversight of more than 6 billion dollars in real estate and a portfolio consisting of 154 properties totaling more than 50,000 units in 14 states.  

John Garibaldi

Managing Partner - Development

Responsible for all acquisition and development activities, Mr. Garibaldi has spent the past 20 years acquiring and developing apartments across the country. He maintains involvement in all aspects of apartment acquisition, development, construction, management and finance. Previously, Mr. Garibaldi was a development partner for The Finger Companies. Earlier in his career, he was responsible for acquisition and development at both Gross Investments in Houston and Trammell Crow Residential in San Francisco. Mr. Garibaldi received an MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business, where he was president of his graduating class, and an engineering degree from the University of Notre Dame.

Eric E. Kenney

Working within the metro areas of San Diego and Phoenix, Mr. Kenney is a real estate development executive with over 30 years of industry experience. His career has included development responsibility for 42 investment-grade properties including over 7500 apartment units and over 1 million square feet of retail/office space. Prior to joining The Hanover Company, he was Vice President of Development for Altman Development Corporation and Senior Vice President and Operating Partner for Oxford Development Corporation. Mr. Kenney holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the Arizona State University College of Business with a double major in real estate and finance.  

David Hall

Development Partner

Working primarily in the greater Boston area, Mr. Hall brings 24 years of experience in leading complex development projects in a national platform across multiple property types.   Before joining The Hanover Company, he directed a large military base redevelopment project outside Boston for LNR Property Corporation.  Previously, Mr. Hall developed a national portfolio of office buildings for KBS Realty Advisors and served in various development and leasing capacities at Trammell Crow Company.  Mr. Hall has an MBA from the Kellogg School at Northwestern University and earned his BA from Dartmouth College.

 

Ryan Hamilton

Working primarily in the greater areas of Los Angeles and Denver, Mr. Hamilton most recently worked for Henry S. Miller Commercial, the largest independent real estate brokerage firm in Texas. There he represented clients in Income Property Sales, Project Leasing, Development Consulting, Property Acquisition and Excess Property Disposition. Mr. Hamilton earned a Bachelor of Science in Economics and Finance from The University of Texas at Dallas. Licensed by the Texas Real Estate Commission, he is also a member of the North Texas Commercial Association of Realtors and the International Council of Shopping Centers.

Adam Harbin

Working primarily in the greater areas of Atlanta, Charlotte, D.C., Baltimore and Philadelphia, Mr. Harbin joined The Hanover Company from the New York office of the law firm of Latham & Watkins, where he worked primarily in bank and project finance. Previously, Mr. Harbin practiced general corporate law at the Nashville law firm of Bass, Berry & Sims. Mr. Harbin earned his juris doctorate from The University of Texas School of Law, where he served on the Texas Law Review and graduated as a Chancellor. He earned bachelor's degrees in both Classics and Communication Studies from The University of Alabama.

David Ott

Development Partner

Working primarily in the greater areas of Houston, Dallas, Austin, and Chicago, Mr. Ott is involved in all aspects of the acquisition and development process. Mr. Ott holds a Master of Business Administration in finance from Tulane University, a Master of Architecture from the Illinois Institute of Technology, and a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish from The University of Texas at Austin. Prior to joining Hanover, Mr. Ott worked for Murphy/Jahn Architects in Chicago and Gensler Architects in Houston. His design, planning and development experience includes residential, hotel, office and mixed-use developments around the country.

Stephen Luna

Development Partner / Director of East Coast Architecture

With a background that includes 18 years of experience in the design and development of commercial and residential projects, Mr. Luna is responsible for managing the design and construction oversight activities of projects in Texas, North Carolina, Massachusetts, Maryland, and Washington DC. Previously, he was the Director of Design for Hanover and oversaw the architectural design of all urban projects. In this role, Mr. Luna worked to develop standards of quality in design and construction. Mr. Luna earned a Bachelor of Architecture degree from The University of Texas at Austin.

Rick Stinson

Development Partner / Director of West Coast Architecture

With a background that includes 23 years of experience in the design and development of commercial and residential projects, Mr. Stinson is responsible for new project development in greater San Diego and managing the design and construction oversight activities of projects in Arizona, California, Colorado, Oregon, and Washington. Since 1998, he has been directly involved in the development, design, and construction contract administration of twenty luxury high-rise and low-rise, high density residential projects comprising more than 4000 apartment units and more than five million square feet. Mr. Stinson earned a BS in Architecture from University of Texas at Arlington.

Scott Youdall

Working primarily in the San Francisco Bay Area, Mr. Youdall is responsible for overseeing Hanover's development activity in Northern California. Before joining The Hanover Company, Mr. Youdall served as Vice President of Acquisitions for SummerHill Apartment Communities, where he was responsible for growing the firm's multifamily development portfolio. Mr. Youdall has spent over 10 years procuring new development sites in the Bay Area for both apartment and single family home communities. He is a graduate of Cornell University and holds an MBA from the Haas School of Business at UC Berkeley.

 

Randy Distefano

Director of Interior Architecture

As Director of Interior Architecture, Mr. Distefano is responsible for managing the interior design function for the Hanover portfolio. He first began designing urban multi-family projects for Hanover in 1999 prior to joining the firm permanently in 2004. Mr. Distefano has had an extensive career working as a self-employed registered Architect/Interior Designer responsible for the lead design of numerous corporate, legal and residential projects across the United States, including Houston, Chicago, New York and Los Angeles. Mr. Distefano earned a Bachelor of Architecture degree from Louisiana State University.

 

Chase LeBlanc

Director of Landscape Architecture

As Director of Landscape Architecture, Mr. LeBlanc is responsible for managing the landscape planning, design, documentation, and construction administration function for Hanover's portfolio.  Mr. LeBlanc joined Hanover in 1997 and is a licensed landscape architect.  His career has included landscape design responsibility for over 100 investment grade properties and more than 30,000 units.  He earned a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture degree from Texas A&M University.

Managing Partner - Construction

Overseeing all areas of Hanover's construction and design activities, Mr. Dyer-Smith's construction experience encompasses both domestic and international development. Howard is experienced in low-density and high-rise residential developments, as well as a wide range of commercial projects. He has held executive positions at both JA Jones Construction Co. and with the Harbert Companies. Mr. Dyer-Smith graduated with a BS in Civil Engineering from the University of Cape Town ( South Africa ) and an MS in Civil Engineering from Stanford University. He is a registered professional engineer.

Vice President of Safety & Administration, Construction

Mr. Cortez is responsible for management of the construction division's safety program, quality assurance program, project control systems and administrative support staff on all projects throughout the U.S. Before joining The Hanover Company, Mr. Cortez was Vice President of Operations for Tribble & Stephens Co., a private commercial general contractor providing nationwide construction services. Mr. Cortez graduated from the University of Houston with a Bachelor of Science degree in Construction Management.

Mr. Bolton heads up our regional office in Los Angeles and oversees predevelopment, design, construction planning and execution for projects throughout the Western region. Mr. Bolton has over 30 years of experience within the development and construction industry. Prior to joining The Hanover Company, Mr. Bolton was Senior Vice President and Partner with Lowe Enterprises / Destination Development and oversaw all their resort development activities throughout the United States.

Mr. Bolton graduated from California Polytechnic State University at San Luis Obispo with a Bachelor of Science degree in Construction Management and has completed the Real Estate Management Program at Harvard Business School.

Mr. Denney heads up Hanover's Boston area office, overseeing design, construction planning and execution for projects in the Northeast region. Mr. Denney brings more than 20 years of construction experience to The Hanover Company. He was most recently the Project Executive managing the Commercial Construction Group for Lee Kennedy, Co. His work spans categories ranging from museums and multifamily to commercial, institutional and public projects. Mr. Denney earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management, and a Masters degree in Civil Engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute.

Vice President, Construction

Mr. Wood oversees design, construction planning and execution for Hanover projects in several major markets. Prior to joining Hanover in 2004, Mr. Wood was the Director of Senior Housing Projects for Manhattan Construction Company, where he had been employed since 1995. Mr. Wood also worked for two other major general contractors, including Fletcher Dinwiddie Construction Company, and was Senior Project Manager on the Getty Cultural Center project in Los Angeles. Mr. Wood is a graduate of Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Home Building and Residential Design.

Thomas Knutson

Vice President, Estimating

Mr. Knutson is responsible for producing feasibility budgets, tracking budgets during the design and preconstruction phases as well as ensuring that Hanover's construction standards are properly documented for all Hanover projects throughout the United States.  Prior to joining Hanover in 2007, Mr. Knutson worked as a Project Manager for Manhattan Construction and as a Superintendent for Camden Property Trust.  His work experience includes the construction of high-density and garden apartments, high-rise office buildings, and large-scale institutional facilities.  Mr. Knutson graduated from Texas A&M University with a Bachelors of Science degree in Construction Science.
